A submersible carrying five people to the wreck of the Titanic disappeared in the North Atlantic, triggering a race against the clock to find the vessel, known as the Titan. A vast search covering 10,000 square miles by a fleet of ships and airplanes was swiftly launched but turned up no sign of the submersible. It had 41 hours of oxygen left as of Tuesday, meaning that the searchers are working against time. The carbon-fibre vessel’s backup systems were designed to float up to the surface if needed. The trip was organised by US company OceanGate Expeditions. Among those on board was British adventurer Hamish Harding and Pakistani nationals Shahzada Dawood and his son.
