EXETER — Lee Frank, the owner and head chef of Otis in Exeter, has been announced as one of the 16 semifinalists for best chef in the Northeast in the 2024 James Beard Foundation Awards. Frank, who was regarded as a culinary pioneer in Exeter, expressed his shock and honor upon receiving the nomination. Known for his Modern Americana five-course tasting menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, Frank has played a significant role in elevating Exeter’s culinary scene. As the only chef from New Hampshire on the list, he feels both surprised and humbled, recognizing the talent of his fellow chefs in the Granite State. Despite the pressure that comes with being a semifinalist, Frank remains committed to maintaining the high standards of his restaurant and representing his community. Exeter chef Paul Callaghan of Vino e Vivo was also listed as a semifinalist for the award last year, further solidifying the town’s reputation as a food destination. With this nomination, Frank aims to continue pushing the boundaries of his cuisine and contributing to the growth of Exeter’s dining scene.
