The operations of the European Union’s naval mission to the Red Sea have not been affected by Iran’s first-ever direct attack on Israel, according to Rear Admiral Vasileios Gryparis. The EU’s Red Sea naval mission, Eunavfor Aspides, remains steadfast in its mission to protect merchant vessels sailing through the region. Since its launch in February, the mission has successfully intercepted drones and ballistic missiles launched by Houthi militants, providing safe passage to 79 merchant vessels. Commander Gryparis emphasized the need for more combat ships to cover the vast area effectively. Despite the geopolitical tensions in the region, the mission continues to safeguard maritime trade routes crucial for global commerce.
