Eagle Pass, Texas Declares State of Emergency Amid Increae of Illegal Immigrants

The small border town of Eagle Pass, Texas, has declared a state of emergency in response to a significant surge of illegal immigrants attempting to enter the United States. The city, located in Maverick County on the Rio Grande, has been grappling with an overwhelming number of undocumented immigrants, primarily single adult men, crossing the border.

Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. issued the emergency declaration due to the severe undocumented immigrant surge plaguing the city. The declaration will remain in effect for seven days unless renewed by the city council. This move enables Eagle Pass to take necessary emergency measures and seek aid and assistance in dealing with the situation.

Salinas emphasized the city’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its local citizens, highlighting that the emergency declaration allows them to request financial resources for the additional services required due to the influx of undocumented immigrants.

Photographs and videos shared by Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin showcased the magnitude of the migrant influx. Melugin reported the illegal crossing of over 1,000 migrants into Eagle Pass, many stating they were from Venezuela. He documented numerous groups of predominantly single adult men waiting to be processed by Border Patrol and lamented the lack of consequences for crossing illegally, with migrants expecting to be released into the US after processing.

The Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that at least 4,000 individuals crossed into Eagle Pass within a day, emphasizing the scale of the challenge faced by local authorities.

Reports suggest that Mexican drug cartels are spreading misinformation online, misleading migrants into believing that seeking asylum in the US will guarantee their entry into the country. This tactic is perceived as an attempt by cartels to overwhelm border officers while smuggling illicit drugs across the border.

Earlier this week, Fox News Digital reported that more than 2,200 illegal immigrants crossed the Eagle Pass border into the United States. The situation has impacted Mexico’s largest freight company, Ferromex, forcing the temporary suspension of 60 trains due to the unprecedented number of migrants hitching rides to the border. The company expressed concerns over safety and the regrettable cases of injury or death resulting from migrants attempting to board moving trains.

As the situation unfolds, local authorities are navigating the challenges posed by this surge of undocumented immigrants. The declaration of a state of emergency by Eagle Pass signals the urgent need for additional resources and support to address the escalating crisis at the border.
