Dozens of Canadians Remain in Gaza Strip as Canadians and Israelis Mourn Peace Activist
Scores of Canadians are still hoping to leave the Gaza Strip, as Canadians and Israelis mourn the loss of peace activist Vivian Silver in last month’s attack by Hamas militants. According to Global Affairs Canada, over 250 Canadians, permanent residents, and their eligible family members are in contact with the government agency in the war-torn Palestinian territory. Ottawa has reported that 356 Canadians and their relatives have managed to leave the Gaza Strip thus far, with 10 individuals departing on Monday.
Late on Monday, Israeli officials announced that Vivian Silver, a dual national who was previously believed to have been taken hostage, had died in the brutal attack carried out by Hamas, which also resulted in the death of more than 1,200 people in Israel on October 7.
The situation in the Gaza Strip remains tense, with Canadians and Israelis deeply saddened by the loss of Vivian Silver and concerned for the safety of those who are still awaiting evacuation. Efforts are ongoing to assist Canadians and their families in leaving the area and returning to Canada.
