Indian actor and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Diya Mirza, spoke about plastic use and how individuals can reduce their use of single-use plastics in daily life. Mirza believes that engagement with stakeholders in the packaging industry is more effective than an outright ban of plastic. She emphasizes the need for managing plastic waste more efficiently and recycling it so that it can be used again and again. Mirza proposes three effective approaches to tackle plastic waste: guidelines, lifestyle changes, and the World Plastic Assembly. Climate change is a significant issue in the Himalayan region, and experts believe it adversely impacts farming and the community. The German agency, GiZ, is partnering with the Niti Aayog to address rural economic issues and pursue several projects in Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu plans to lead the initiative to completely ban single-use plastic in the state within a year.
