Detroit, Michigan – The city of Detroit is mourning the loss of James F. Thrower II, a devoted family man and successful businessman. James, born in Daingerfield, Texas, passed away on October 6, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories.
Born to James Fredrick Thrower and Bobbie Roberson (Johnson), James had humble beginnings in Texas. He completed his high school education at Daingerfield High School in 1986 before following in his father’s footsteps and attending East Texas State University, now known as Texas A&M of Commerce. In 1990, he graduated with a degree in Business Management, eager to embark on his professional journey.
In pursuit of his ambitions, James moved to Detroit, Michigan, leaving behind the familiar Texas landscape. He began his career at Michcon Consolidated Gas Company, displaying dedication and a commitment to excellence. However, destiny had a different calling for James, as he felt drawn to the family business – McDonald’s. Fuelled by his passion for the industry, James graduated from Hamburger University and became the proud owner and operator of his first McDonald’s restaurant in Detroit.
James’s entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering dedication led him to own and manage two more McDonald’s locations in Detroit. He became an integral part of the metropolitan Detroit area, serving delicious meals and fostering connections with the community.
While building his professional empire, James also found love in Detroit. Introduced to Charlene Smith by his father, James immediately knew it was love at first sight. Their summer visits to the city became even more special as their relationship blossomed. James and Charlene tied the knot on September 13, 1996, celebrating a union built on love, trust, and shared values.
From their beautiful marriage, James and Charlene welcomed two sons into the world, Maximillian Stone and Barrington Blade. Family was always at the core of James’s life, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. In recent years, he found immense joy in his role as Pappy to his spirited granddaughter, Ziya. He admired her inquisitive nature, artistic abilities, and vibrant personality, creating lasting memories together.
James’s appetite for life extended beyond his businesses and family. He had a genuine love for food, especially soul food, and eagerly explored new culinary delights. Holidays became cherished moments when he indulged in these flavorful feasts with his loved ones. James also had an impeccable taste in music, particularly within the realm of hip-hop culture. His extensive wardrobe and sense of style were often humorously credited as the inspiration for his sons’ own fashion choices.
Throughout his life, James formed long-lasting friendships that touched the lives of many. His warm spirit, genuine kindness, and dedication to those around him will always be remembered.
James Thrower II is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Charlene Thrower, their two sons Maximillian and Barrington, his cherished granddaughter Ziya, and his parents Bobbie and James. He also leaves behind his siblings Joni, Jamar, and Marissa.
