The daughter of an American man, who has been sentenced to death in Iran, has requested that Germany open criminal proceedings against members of the Iranian judiciary. The German-Iranian citizen, Jamshid Sharmahd, was allegedly abducted by Iran three years ago in Dubai. The Iranian authorities have accused Sharmahd of planning a 2008 attack on a mosque that killed 14 people and injured over 200 others. The verdict, handed down earlier this year, has been condemned by German and European diplomats. The family has alleged that Sharmahd has suffered torture and a violation of human rights while in detention. Sharmahd’s daughter has filed a complaint with the German federal prosecutor’s office against eight high-ranking members of Iran’s judiciary and the intelligence service, alleging crimes against humanity.
