A dam break in southern Ukraine has led to flooding, leaving hundreds of people stranded on rooftops and thousands without drinking water, according to officials. The dam collapse claimed at least three lives, with 4,000 residents evacuated from Ukrainian and Russian-controlled parts of the area, which had over 60,000 inhabitants. The disaster, which affected the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam, has compounded the region’s misery, as it has suffered from artillery and missile attacks for the past year and a half. The dam’s collapse also adds to the likelihood of lasting electricity shortages and agricultural ruin.
