As China and Cuba deny signing a deal to establish a spy centre on the island, Cubans say their focus is on scarcity amid its ongoing economic crisis. The country is facing one of the toughest economic situations in its recent history, with slow-growing state-controlled economy, slow Covid-19 recovery, bumpy monetary reordering, and tightening US sanctions. The constant rise in food prices is one of the biggest challenges faced by the Cuban population. Amid this crisis, 300,000 people have left the country in the last year alone. Emigration has increased because a lot of Cubans are fighting a battle of hunger, misery and poverty.
