Corpus Christi Designated Music Friendly Texas City, Boosting Economic Activity

Corpus Christi, a city in South Texas, has recently been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office. This recognition highlights the city’s vibrant music scene and its contribution to the cultural traditions of Texas. The announcement was made by Governor Greg Abbott, who emphasized the importance of music in shaping the Texas brand.

The Music Friendly Texas program, established in 2016, aims to promote music-related economic development and job creation across various cities and communities in the state. Corpus Christi now joins the ranks of 43 other Texas cities, including Austin, Houston, and El Paso, that have received this certification.

To celebrate this achievement, a special ceremony will be held during the city’s monthly Art Walk event in the downtown area. In honor of the recognition, the event will be renamed Music Walk, providing a platform for local musicians to showcase their talent.

Mayor Paulette Guajardo expressed her pride in Corpus Christi’s vibrant music scene receiving the recognition it deserves. She stated that this designation not only honors the city’s rich musical heritage but also fosters growth and collaboration within the local arts community.

The designation as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community not only highlights Corpus Christi’s commitment to supporting the music industry but also brings significant economic benefits. Last year, the Texas music industry supported over 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generated more than $26 billion in economic activity statewide. This certification will provide Corpus Christi with the necessary tools and resources to create further opportunities and enhance the city’s music industry.

The recognition of Corpus Christi as a Music Friendly Texas City underscores the importance of music in the state’s culture and economy. It showcases the city’s commitment to fostering a thriving music scene and highlights its potential for further growth and collaboration. With this designation, Corpus Christi is poised to attract increased investment and create more opportunities for local musicians, ultimately boosting the city’s economic activity.
