A Connecticut woman is speaking out about a disturbing incident on a CTRail train that was captured in a viral TikTok video. The woman, who goes by the TikTok handle @Mrwa043, and her mother were subjected to racist and offensive comments by a fellow passenger during their journey from New Haven to Hartford.
According to @Mrwa043, the incident started when the unidentified passenger made crude remarks about foreign exchange students. However, the situation quickly escalated as the passenger began discussing white supremacy and the sexualization of children. @Mrwa043 and her mother, who were wearing hijabs, felt targeted and feared for their safety. With concerns for their well-being, @Mrwa043 decided to record the incident on her phone.
The recent attack on State Representative Maryam Khan added to @Mrwa043’s anxiety, as it hit close to home. She questioned whether this is the reality of Connecticut now. But amidst the turmoil, a CTRail conductor stepped in and intervened, telling the passenger to leave the train. The conductor asserted that such hate speech and language were not tolerated on board.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) commended the conductor’s actions and stated that they do not tolerate hateful speech and language on their trains. DOT spokesperson Josh Morgan praised the conductor’s courage and professionalism.
