The Chinese government has dismissed a report by Mandiant, a US security firm that recently accused Chinese-linked hackers of targeting public agencies and schools around the world, as far-fetched and unprofessional and accused the US of targeting the cybersecurity industry. A spokesperson for the foreign ministry repeated accusations that Washington carries out hacking attacks and complained the cybersecurity industry rarely reports on them. The attacks cited by Mandiant exploited a vulnerability in a Barracuda Networks email system and targeted foreign ministries in Southeast Asia, other government agencies and academic organisations in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
