Carlson deemed Sinclair’s story obviously true, citing Sinclair’s signed affidavit and his willingness to undergo a lie detector test. Carlson dismissed Sinclair’s criminal past and motives, highlighting his own biases and dismissing credible news outlets that revealed the flaws in Sinclair’s claims.
Media Matters, a non-profit organization, promptly refuted Carlson’s defense of Sinclair’s story. Reports from Politico and WorldNetDaily indicate that Sinclair failed his polygraph test and had a history of making dishonest statements. Sinclair even faced an outstanding arrest warrant during the time of his accusations against Obama. Yet Carlson, apparently trusting his own instincts over factual evidence, insists that Sinclair’s story holds true if one listens to it in detail – a dubious assertion at best.
It is worth noting that Carlson’s revival of this 15-year-old story seems suspiciously timed. Media Matters suggests a possible motivation behind his actions: Carlson is seeking substantial funding from right-wing billionaires for his new media venture. It seems that Carlson believes featuring Sinclair in an interview can help him attract these wealthy individuals.
