Thousands of Newcastle fans have flocked to Milan for the highly anticipated Champions League showdown between Newcastle United and AC Milan. However, there is growing concern about the potential clashes between the supporters of both clubs. AC Milan’s diehard fans, known as the Ultras Warriors, have a reputation for their passionate support and occasional violence.

The Ultras Warriors have declared their intention to cheer, incite, scream, and fight for their beloved club, seemingly without fear of repercussions. Unfortunately, this has already resulted in a shocking incident. A Newcastle fan, Eddie McKay, was ambushed and stabbed by masked attackers in the Italian city. This disturbing event has raised fears of further violence during the football-related clashes.

The Ultras Warriors trace their roots back to the infamous Fossa dei Leoni (Lion’s Den) association, which played a pioneering role in the modern ultra movement in Italy. The group provided unwavering support to AC Milan and occupied Ramp 18 in the San Siro Stadium, later dominating the Curva Sud. However, internal strife and differing political ideologies led to the disbandment of Fossa in 2005.

Out of the remnants of Fossa emerged the Ultra Warriors, who claimed to be born from the synergy of former Fossa dei Leoni members. They emphasize their apolitical stance and their sole purpose of supporting AC Milan. However, concerns have been raised about the alleged criminal activities of the group’s leader, Luca Lucci, who is currently serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking. Italian media also reported Lucci discussing the killing of a rival Ultras leader.

As Newcastle fans anxiously await the match, concerns surrounding potential clashes between the supporters persist. The intense atmosphere is expected to be felt throughout the San Siro Stadium as both sets of fans passionately back their respective teams. Meanwhile, the streets of Milan have already witnessed rowdy scenes with topless British fans sliding in the slippery streets.

While the focus should be on the sporting event, both on and off the pitch, there is a legitimate apprehension about the potential for violence. The authorities will undoubtedly be on high alert to ensure the safety of all attendees. The Newcastle fans’ long-awaited return to the Champions League after 20 years adds even more excitement and tension to this highly anticipated clash in Milan.
