Howling winds, blowing snow, and sub-zero temperatures proved to be challenging obstacles for Republican presidential candidates as they made their final campaign rounds ahead of the Iowa Caucuses. Iowa battled its second blizzard in a week, with up to 15 inches of snow falling in some areas on January 12. The dangerous travel conditions led most candidates to alter their schedules. One candidate, former President Donald Trump, canceled an event and released a video message to his supporters. Despite the harsh weather conditions, Trump pledged to arrive in Iowa around Saturday night and expressed confidence in his committed supporters. Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley continued their campaign efforts in Iowa, with DeSantis making low-key appearances and Haley resuming her campaigning after a short break. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy refused to cancel any of his campaign events despite the heavy snowfall and high winds. With extreme cold forecasted in Iowa in the coming days, the candidates are facing an additional challenge as they approach the January 15 caucuses.
