Beloved Virginia Farm Owner and Post Master Mourned at 99

Marian Elizabeth Toombs Lenhart, a cherished figure in the community of Saxe, Va., has passed away at the age of 99. Marian, the daughter of the late George Russell Toombs and Julia Lipscombe Toombs, departed from this earthly life on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Survived by her four children – Sandra Lenhart of Richmond, Steve Lenhart of Saxe, Debra (George) Lyle of Richmond, and Barry (Tracey) Lenhart of Midlothian – Marian leaves behind a lasting legacy. She also leaves behind three sisters: Mary Lianos of Manchester, NH, Joyce Wall of Troy, Ohio, and Linda Kersey of Greensboro, NC.

Born on April 18, 1924, Marian spent an impressive 74 years dedicated to her beloved family farm, Walnut Valley Stock and Poultry Farm. There, she found joy in caring for livestock and nurturing her garden. The sight of things growing brought her immense pleasure. Marian’s unwavering devotion to God, family, church, friends, and neighbors defined her character. Her home was always open to her siblings, nephews, and nieces, who enjoyed countless summers and holidays frolicking about the farm.

Marian was also deeply committed to serving her community as the Post Master of the Cullen Community, a role she held dear. Her commitment extended further as she actively supported the Charlotte County American Cancer Society, demonstrating her dedication to helping those in need.

The news of Marian’s passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Friends and family gathered at Browning-Duffer Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, September 12, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to pay their respects and honor her memory.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., a graveside funeral service was held at Saxe Cemetery, followed by a reception at Marian’s cherished home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Keysville Evangelical Church.

Marian Elizabeth Toombs Lenhart will be remembered as a pillar of strength, faith, and love. Her remarkable journey and profound impact on the community will forever be treasured by all who were privileged to know her. She leaves behind an enduring legacy of kindness, generosity, and devotion to family.
