Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi has called on Indian banks to collaborate and develop policies for mobilizing capital towards green finance, in order to address climate change issues. Speaking at a seminar on climate finance and risk, Joshi highlighted the potential of the financial sector to incite behaviour change in corporates and contribute to building a sustainable society. SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara called for mobilising domestic and international flows from retail as well as institutional investors to meet the needs of green finance and for climate-focused frameworks supported by central regulations. Ministry of Environment and Forest Conservation Secretary Leena Nandan emphasised that India has been at the forefront of tackling climate change and outperformed on its targets for developing green energy capacity, while urging all stakeholders to collectively adopt a climate-conscious lifestyle to mitigate further climate challenges.
