Baltimore Triplets Overcome Premature Birth to Pursue College Dreams Together

From the NICU to an HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities), a set of Baltimore triplets born severely premature are now getting ready to start college – together.

Sharnetta Hicks had a high-risk pregnancy when her three surprise miracles were born. Each weighing less than two pounds and born just a minute apart, their chances of survival seemed bleak. They were so tiny that their hands could fit through their father’s wedding band.

Over nearly two decades, the Hicks family dedicated themselves to nurturing and preparing their triplets for the ride of a lifetime. They provided unwavering support, focusing on faith and academics, to ensure their dream of attending college together could be realized.

The Hicks triplets learned about their parents’ struggles and sacrifices, inspiring them to persevere and achieve their goals. Their parents instilled in them a drive for excellence and the determination to make the most of their opportunities.

The family’s dedication paid off in the form of acceptance into numerous colleges. However, the financial burden of college was a major concern. Undeterred, the three siblings worked tirelessly, writing scholarship essays and pursuing opportunities to secure funding. Thanks to their perseverance, they were able to earn scholarships that paved the way for their educational journey.

The Hicks triplets are now embarking on their college adventures. Morgan and Sanai are attending Spelman College in Atlanta, while Tony Jr. is just across the street at Morehouse College. Their achievements serve as a testament to their hard work, determination, and resilience.

Their parents, Sharnetta and Tony Hicks Sr., have been the driving force behind their success. The couple’s unwavering love, guidance, and commitment to providing more than their children needed have laid the foundation for their future success.

As the Hicks triplets embark on their college journeys, they are preparing for careers that will make a difference in the world. With aspirations to become a biomedical engineer, an attorney, and an aerospace engineer, their collective dreams reflect their determination to make a positive impact.

The Hicks family’s inspiring story serves as a reminder that with hard work, support, and a steadfast belief in oneself, anyone can achieve their dreams. The journey from the NICU to college exemplifies the power of perseverance and the untapped potential that lies within us all.
