Baltimore Residents Embrace Faith Communities’ Initiative to Reduce Violence
In an effort to build a path towards peace, residents of Baltimore are joining various faith communities as they voluntarily surrender firearms. One resident, who had previously purchased a shotgun while residing in a rough area of the city, emphasized that with his move to a safer neighborhood, he no longer felt the need to possess a gun. Another individual expressed relief at being able to relinquish her handgun, stating that it was worth it to remove a potentially dangerous weapon from the streets.
Baltimore has long struggled with high levels of crime and violence, consistently ranking among the most dangerous cities in the United States according to FBI data. In response, parishes have previously worked together to address the city’s crime rate.
