An Akron teenager has been taken into custody in connection with a shooting that occurred after a youth football game on Sunday. The incident left a 19-year-old man and a 7-year-old boy injured. The Akron Police have reported significant progress in the case, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old male.

According to Lieutenant Michael A. Miller, officers discovered a .45-caliber gun thrown out of the suspect’s bedroom window during a search of a residence in the 800 block of Raymond Street, just a few blocks away from Lane Field Park where the shooting took place. The weapon was successfully recovered, and the teenager was apprehended without incident.

The 16-year-old has been charged with two counts of felonious assault and tampering with evidence. He has been placed in the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center. The arrest was credited to the diligent work of detectives from the Akron Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.

During the search of the suspect’s home, additional evidence related to the case was also discovered and is currently being processed by investigators.

The young boy who was shot on Sunday sustained serious injuries and is currently in the hospital. He is a second-grade student at Helen Arnold Elementary School, which is located nearby. The 19-year-old victim was fortunately less seriously injured and was hit in the leg by a bullet.

The shooting incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Sunday at Lane Field Park, in the 600 block of Vernon Odom Boulevard, shortly after a youth football game had concluded. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

In a separate development, a 37-year-old woman present at the residence was also charged with Having Weapons Under Disability after a second handgun was found in her bedroom.

The Akron community is relieved by the progress made in the case and hopes that justice will be served for the victims. The incident has prompted families and community members to come together in support of the victims and their families, organizing prayer circles as a show of solidarity.

Investigations are ongoing, and the Akron Police Department is committed to thoroughly examining all evidence associated with the case. The aim is to bring closure to the victims and their families while ensuring that the responsible parties face the appropriate legal consequences for their actions.

This incident serves as a reminder of the need for continued efforts to prevent violence and safeguard the community, particularly in spaces where families and children gather for recreational activities. The Akron Police Department remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and will continue its work to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The Akron community is resilient and will stand united against violence, supporting the victims and their families during this difficult time.
