Abu Dhabi Judicial Delegation Explores South Korea’s Cutting-Edge Correctional Practices and Rehabilitation Programs

A high-level delegation from the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) embarked on a mission to South Korea to study the country’s exceptional correctional practices and rehabilitation programs. Led by Yousef Saeed Alabri, the ADJD Undersecretary, the delegation included other prominent officials such as Ali Mohammed Alblooshi, Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi, Counsellor Ali Al Shaer Al Dhaheri, Director of the Judicial Inspection Division, and Abdulla Saif Zahran, Director of the Strategic Planning and Organizational Development Division.

The emphasis of this visit was to explore South Korea’s best practices, experiences, and systems in place, with a particular focus on safeguarding the rights of convicts in accordance with local and international laws. Moreover, the delegation aimed to gain insights into integrated rehabilitation and training programs that effectively promote positive behavioral changes and ensure successful reintegration of inmates into society.

This visit aligns with the strategic cooperation and commitment of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. By drawing from global judicial experiences and adapting them to the judicial system of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the aim is to strengthen the competitive position of Abu Dhabi’s judicial system while fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

During their visit to Seoul, the capital of South Korea, the ADJD delegation received comprehensive briefings on the advanced mechanisms and state-of-the-art security systems that are the foundation of the country’s correctional and penal facilities. The delegation also gained insights into the innovative use of technology in the corrections field and explored various rehabilitation and correctional programs that equip prisoners with practical skills for their successful reintegration into society.

At the Department of Juvenile Rehabilitation Institutions, ADJD officials were introduced to methods for rehabilitating inmates from the juvenile age group. They witnessed the availability of educational facilities specifically designed for sentenced minors, as well as amenities like sports halls and computer training laboratories.

One notable aspect the delegation delved into was the computerized integration between litigation management systems and inmate case management within correctional and penal institutions. They received in-depth explanations on the statistical indicators that measure the success of these technological solutions and their crucial role in expediting transactions and streamlining procedures.

This visit to South Korea not only broadened the understanding of cutting-edge correctional practices and rehabilitation programs but also provided valuable insights that can be adapted and implemented in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s judicial system. By prioritizing strategic cooperation with international partners and learning from global experiences, Abu Dhabi seeks to enhance its competitive position while upholding the highest standards of justice and ensuring the successful reintegration of convicts into society.
