In a recent incident that has caught the public’s attention, a woman legislator from Thane district in Maharashtra was caught on camera slapping a civic engineer. The video has now gone viral on social media. The legislator in question is Mira Bhayandar MLA Geeta Jain, who was seen abusing two engineers of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation after they razed some structures, resulting in the occupants, including children, being forced to stay on the streets ahead of the monsoon.
In the video, Jain is seen questioning the engineers on how they could raze the structures without producing a Government Resolution (GR). Attempts to get a response from Jain have been unsuccessful, and MBMC Commissioner Dileep Dhole has yet to release any statement regarding the incident.
Jain, a former mayor from the BJP, won the 2019 polls as an Independent but supports the BJP-Shiv Sena government. This incident has elicited strong reactions from members of the public, who are now calling for action to be taken against the erring legislator.
In related news, the Madhya Pradesh High Court recently quashed an FIR against former Finance Minister Raghavji in an unnatural sex case, providing a reprieve for the BJP leader.
