A tragic incident occurred in western Nebraska last week, resulting in the death of a 57-year-old man from Texas. Patrick Stauffer of Willis, Texas, was identified as the pickup truck driver who lost his life in a three-vehicle crash. The Custer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Stauffer was pronounced dead on Friday at a hospital in Broken Bow. The names of the other drivers involved in the accident were not immediately released, but they were transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. on Nebraska Highway 2, approximately 1½ miles southeast of Anselmo. According to investigators, a semi-trailer truck carrying cattle collided with a tractor from behind. As a result, the semi’s trailer tipped over, and a Ford pickup truck driven by Stauffer, which was traveling west on Highway 2, collided with it. Tragically, several cattle in the semi’s trailer also lost their lives in the collision.
The Nebraska State Patrol provided assistance to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of the accident. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The loss of a life is always a devastating event, and this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Patrick Stauffer during this difficult time.
