2023 East Jordan Portside Arts Fair Unveils Prize Winners
The prestigious East Jordan Portside Arts Fair concluded its highly anticipated 2023 edition, announcing the winners of its coveted prizes. The event, held in East Jordan, showcased an exceptional array of artistic talent, attracting artists from various disciplines and locations.
Renowned interior designer Kim Scholl had the honor of serving as this year’s judge. Scholl faced the challenging task of selecting the most outstanding artists from the plethora of remarkable artwork on display during the show, which took place on August 5th.
Among the winners was Kendall Hornsby, hailing from Petoskey, who claimed the top spot in the 2-dimensional category. In the 3-dimensional category, Jasmine Petrie emerged victorious. Petrie, a local artist from East Jordan, wowed both the judge and the audience with her extraordinary weaving and textiles, incorporating natural dyes. Petrie’s talent and creativity earned her the $500 prize.
Additionally, several artists received honorable mentions for their exceptional contributions. Erin Bonner, a talented artist from Traverse City, was recognized for her remarkable variety of nature-inspired paintings. Chris Trabka, known for his mastery in stoneware and porcelain pottery, was also acknowledged for his outstanding craftsmanship. Both Bonner and Trabka were awarded honorable mention ribbons and a complimentary booth to further showcase their exceptional artwork.
The East Jordan Portside Arts Fair also celebrates the accomplishments of emerging artists with prizes specifically dedicated to students. Olivia Payne, a budding artist from Boyne City, claimed the $200 prize in the student category for her captivating paintings. Jayde Fazio, an aspiring artist from East Jordan, secured the $100 award for her innovative hand-painted textile designs.
