The state of Nagaland in India has launched a Janbhagidari event in response to the United Nations Framework for Climate Change’s concern for the earth’s health. Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, warned that an increase in temperature is killing off insects and micro-organisms and has caused ice melting at the north and south poles. This rise in temperature and accompanying trash contributes to climate change and the emergence of new zoonotic diseases. Nagaland has organised various programs from June 1 to 15, including tree planting, literacy and numeracy programs and plogging to encourage responsible waste disposal. The event is part of the build-up to the G20’s Education Working Group event to be held in Pune in mid-June.
