Police in Haryana, India, are scanning thousands of social media videos in their investigation into communal violence that recently occurred in the region. Special Investigation Teams (SITs) established by the state government have begun analyzing around 2,000 videos that have been widely circulated on various social media platforms. In addition to these videos, the police are also examining footage from CCTV cameras located near the areas where the violence occurred to identify those involved in the unrest.

The SITs, led by DSP-level officers, have been formed to investigate the 93 First Information Reports (FIRs) that have been filed thus far. One particular SIT has been assigned the task of specifically reviewing social media posts that have the potential to incite tensions. The videos that are under scrutiny have been downloaded from specific accounts, while the police are sourcing additional footage from cameras situated near hospitals, commercial establishments, and intersections.

Varun Singla, the Nuh police chief, revealed that an FIR had already been lodged against three individuals for posting videos that allegedly triggered the violence. The police’s cyber cell is closely monitoring the situation, but they still need to identify more wrongdoers. Therefore, they are thoroughly examining the social media videos and clips from CCTV cameras to gather evidence.

The police remain hopeful that the social media videos will provide significant leads in their investigation. They have assigned experts to carefully analyze the clips, and assure that anyone found guilty will face appropriate action. It is worth mentioning that many of the posts and videos related to the incident have already been deleted by the users.

The police’s efforts to use social media videos as evidence could prove to be crucial in identifying the instigators and bringing them to justice. Through careful analysis and review, they hope to gain further insight into the events that transpired and ensure that the perpetrators face legal consequences for their actions. As the investigation progresses, the police will continue to prioritize the collection and examination of digital evidence to establish a comprehensive picture of the communal violence in Haryana.
