After a month-long impasse, Pennsylvania’s budget crisis may finally be coming to an end. Republican leaders in the Senate have decided to reconvene their colleagues to finalize the state’s spending plan, which had been stalled due to disagreements with Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro. Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, a Republican from Westmoreland County, expressed optimism about negotiations with the governor in a statement released on Wednesday. By forging ahead with the spending plan, the Senate aims to prevent counties and school districts from depleting their reserves or resorting to loans to maintain essential operations.

However, all parties appear to be working towards resolving outstanding issues, with Shapiro’s spokesperson confirming his intention to sign the budget upon its arrival.
