According to an official statement, the first unit of the nuclear power plant in Fatehabad district’s Gorakhpur village is expected to start operations in June 2028. The Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal presided over the meeting between the Haryana government and the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP), where officials shared this information. As part of the project progress, 74% of the ground improvement work has been completed while critical reactor components and essential equipment for the first unit have been transported to the site. Furthermore, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has invested INR 39.08 crores as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in Gorakhpur village.
The GHAVP project director, Niranjan Kumar Mittal, has been providing regular updates on the groundbreaking plant’s progress. In the meeting, the Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal directed the power utility officers to expedite high-tension power line relocation and provide 33 KV power connection from an alternative source to the plant site. In addition, the PWD and Fatehabad district administration were instructed to conduct a joint feasibility study of a road from the national highway to the project site.
Fatehabad nuclear power plant was formally launched by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh nine years ago. The plant has great potential in terms of energy generation and could help reduce India’s dependence on fossil fuels.
