A small plane made a landing right on Highway 501 in the Carolina Forest area. WMBF News received video of the plane landing safely near Carolina Forest Boulevard, and it appears that it did not run into any cars on the busy road. Horry County Fire Rescue responded just around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday to the incident. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Horry County Police Department also assisted at the scene. There are no reported injuries. At one point, multiple lanes were blocked while crews investigated the landing and cleared the area. According to FlightAware, the plane took off from MYR at 10:45 a.m. and flew up to the Wilmington area before turning around and heading back to Myrtle Beach where it ended up making a landing on Highway 501. Records show the plane is registered to Lift Academy, a flight school in the Myrtle Beach area. Jon Austin, a spokesperson for Lift Academy, said one of their training aircraft experienced an in-flight event that led to the emergency landing. The pilot and mechanic on the plane then executed their checklist and safely landed, according to Austin. Austin said the plane wasn’t damaged and taken back to MYR. The NTSB and FAA will investigate the landing and why the pilot had to land along Highway 501.
