Canada has imposed restrictions on permanent residence applications for startups and self-employed persons as part of changes to the Startup Visa Programme (SUV) and the Self-Employed Persons Programme.
The new regulations limit the annual processing of permanent residence applications to a maximum of 10 startups per organization, leading to concerns about reduced opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs.
In addition, the Self-Employed Persons Programme will no longer accept new applications starting April 30, 2024, to address a backlog issue.
The adjustments reflect Canada’s evolving approach to admitting immigrant entrepreneurs and align with recent changes in the country’s immigration policies.
