CHICOPEE, Mass. — We saw a bit of a cold stretch this weekend, but it won’t follow us into the work week. The temperature track shows a couple of below average temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, but by Wednesday, we should be back to above average temperatures.
This month has been an above average month in terms of the temperatures we have been seeing. Usually western Massachusetts sees average highs close to 38-degrees. So far in February of 2024, our average high has been 44-degrees.
Not as hot as our hottest temperature seen on February 21, 2018. That temperature was 74-degrees. But it’s not just this month that we’ve been feeling these warm temperatures, said a local meteorologist.
Looking at data from Westover Air Force Base, in 2024 we have had above-average highs for 33 days of the year. Five of these days were 10-degrees over the average high for that day. We’ve only had 9 days of below average highs in 2024.
Now the year still has a way to go, but as the season begins to wind down, we are definitely on pace to keep having warmer than average days, the meteorologist added.
Because we have seen so many warm days, it begins to make the colder stretches not seem as bad. So, residents of western Massachusetts can continue to enjoy these above-average temperatures for the remainder of the winter season.
