MSNBC analyst Elie Mystal has come under fire after making an insensitive and racist tweet about the recent sub disaster that occurred during a tourist trip to the wreckage of the Titanic. While many were concerned for the passengers’ safety, Mystal took the opportunity to wish for the sub to be done for and for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to be on board. The tweet was made in response to a report that Alito had not disclosed a fishing trip he took 15 years ago, which was paid for by billionaire Paul Singer.

Alito was part of a 7-1 majority that voted in favor of Singer’s hedge fund, NML Capital, in a case involving the collection of debt from Argentina. In a Wall Street Journal Op-Ed, Alito defended his decision, saying he had no obligation to recuse in the case.

Mystal’s tweet has caused outrage on social media, with many calling for his termination from his positions as an analyst with MSNBC and a writer with the liberal publication The Nation. However, as of now, Mystal has yet to apologize for the comment or be fired.

This is not the first time Mystal has made controversial statements. He has previously referred to the Constitution as trash and made accusations of white supremacy in relation to the Kyle Rittenhouse case. However, his recent tweet is seen by many as wishing death upon another human being, which is unacceptable.

The incident comes a year after a man was charged with attempted murder in an alleged plot to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. This shows the dangers of devaluing the life of a Supreme Court Justice, even in an offhand manner.

While Mystal may argue that his tweet was a joke, it is important to remember that he is not a comedian but a political writer and commentator with significant influence. The tweet reveals a lack of basic decency and respect for human life, which is unacceptable in any context.

In conclusion, Mystal’s tweet was inappropriate and reflects poorly on both him and the organizations that employ him. It is important for MSNBC and The Nation to take action and terminate his employment, as his behavior is unacceptable and harmful to society as a whole.
