WASHINGTON – Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Michael Whitaker testified before a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for safety and quality control improvements in the aviation industry. This comes amid growing concerns over safety at Boeing, following incidents involving their aircraft.
During the hearing, lawmakers specifically addressed the issue of quality control at Boeing, with a focus on an incident where a door plug fell off a 737-Max 9 mid-flight near Portland in January. Additionally, concerns were raised about holes that were reportedly not drilled properly around windows on 50 undelivered 737-Max planes.
Whitaker acknowledged the shortcomings of the current system and expressed the need for change, both in terms of ensuring safe aircraft and addressing organizational culture. He emphasized that the safety of the flying public is the FAA’s primary mission.
