Russia Attacks Targets Across Ukraine with Missiles and Drones as EU’s Top Diplomat Visits Kyiv

KYIV, Ukraine – Russia launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting six regions across Ukraine on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of at least four civilians and leaving 25 others injured, including a pregnant woman.

The attacks took place in three major cities, including the capital Kyiv, where Josep Borrell, the European Union’s top diplomat, was present to discuss military aid and financial support for Ukraine. Borrell, who had sought shelter in an air raid shelter earlier in the day, described it as part of Ukraine’s daily reality after nearly two years of ongoing conflict.

Ukraine is in dire need of assistance from Western nations as they struggle with shortages of ammunition and personnel. However, long-term foreign funding is uncertain, as the latest attempt to secure a deal on Ukraine aid in the U.S. Senate collapsed on Tuesday.

Despite minimal movement on the front line, which stretches approximately 1,500 kilometers (900 miles), Russia possesses a significant advantage in terms of missile and artillery ammunition stocks used for long-range strikes. Throughout the conflict, Russia has repeatedly employed missiles to target civilian areas.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has identified air defense and electronic warfare systems capable of neutralizing drones as a top priority for Kyiv.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces report successfully intercepting 44 out of the 64 drones and missiles launched during the morning assault.

The attack claimed the lives of four individuals in Kyiv, according to the State Emergency Service.

In the city of Mykolaiv, located in southern Ukraine, a man lost his life, and around 20 residential buildings and public infrastructure were damaged, informed regional Governor Vitalii Kim.

In Kyiv, 19 people sustained injuries, including a pregnant woman, as confirmed by the Interior Ministry.

Mayor Vitalii Klitschko disclosed multiple incidents of apartment buildings catching fire in various districts of Kyiv. Additionally, two power lines damaged during the attack led to power outages for residents on the city’s east bank.

Oleh Syniehubov, the regional Governor of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, reported that a 52-year-old woman suffered minor injuries in an S-300 missile strike.

Missiles also reached as far as the Lviv region in western Ukraine, causing a fire, as officials stated.
