A Moscow court has rejected an appeal by US journalist Evan Gerhskovich against his incarceration on espionage charges and upheld a previous ruling that he should remain in custody until late August. The 31-year-old Wall Street Journal reporter and US citizen, who claims to have been in Russia on a reporting trip, was arrested in March. Gerhskovich denies the charges against him, which have not been made clear by the authorities. US officials have called for his immediate release, while the journalist is being held in Moscow’s Lefortovo prison, known for its harsh conditions.
