Despite significant price cuts, manufacturer incentives, and generous government subsidies, the demand for electric cars remains low. In fact, only 7 percent of new vehicle sales are electric, falling far short of President Biden’s ambitious goal of achieving 60 percent electric vehicle sales by 2030 and 66 percent by 2032.
According to experts, American consumers still prefer gas-powered cars for a number of reasons. Unlike BEVs, which can take 45 minutes or longer to fully recharge, gas-powered cars can be refueled in just five or 10 minutes at a gas station. Furthermore, an overreliance on green energy sources like wind and solar power could have unintended consequences on the global stage. Germany’s transition to green energy, for example, did not eliminate the country’s dependence on fossil fuels. Instead, it made them reliant on imports, particularly Russian oil. This dependence on Russia has potentially emboldened President Vladimir Putin and may have contributed to his decision to invade Ukraine in 2022.
