Two US Navy SEALs are missing after conducting a nighttime boarding mission off the coast of Somalia, according to three US officials. The SEALs were on an interdiction mission when one of them was knocked off a vessel by high waves. Following protocol, the other SEAL immediately jumped in after their comrade. However, both SEALs have not yet been found. A search and rescue mission is currently underway in the warm waters of the Gulf of Aden, where the incident took place. The mission was unrelated to other ongoing operations in the region, including Operation Prosperity Guardian and recent strikes in Yemen. The US Navy has been actively involved in intercepting weapons destined for Houthi-controlled Yemen. In a statement, US Central Command confirmed the ongoing search and rescue operation and stated that no additional information would be released until the personnel recovery mission is complete. The US military has not only been defending ships against attacks originating from Yemen but has also assisted commercial vessels facing piracy threats. The missing sailors were forward-deployed to the US 5th Fleet area of operations. The situation remains critical as efforts continue to locate and recover the two missing Navy SEALs.
