North Korea Supplying Ballistic Missiles To Russia For Use Against Ukraine, Says White House
Washington, DC: The White House has accused Russia of receiving support from third countries and highlighted its growing isolation worldwide due to sanctions and export controls. According to John Kirby, US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, North Korea is supplying ballistic missiles to Moscow specifically for use against Ukraine.
As Russia continues to launch these brutal attacks, the United States has new information to share about the support that Russia is receiving from third countries, Kirby stated.
He further explained that Russia has turned to like-minded countries to obtain military equipment due to the increasing isolation caused by international sanctions and export controls. One of those countries, according to the US, is North Korea.
Our information indicates that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea recently provided Russia with ballistic missile launchers and several ballistic missiles. On December 30, 2023, Russian forces launched at least one of these North Korean ballistic missiles into Ukraine, Kirby added.
The missile supposedly landed in an open field within Ukraine’s Zaparicia region.
Responding to this development, the US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications revealed that multiple North Korean ballistic missiles were launched into Ukraine by Russia on January 2. The United States is currently assessing the impact of these additional missiles.
This recent incident follows Russia’s most extensive air strike on Ukraine since the beginning of last year’s full-scale invasion, as reported by the Ukrainian military to CNN. The attack involved drones and missiles, causing at least 31 fatalities and over 150 injuries.
Ukraine’s Air Force disclosed that the attack featured as many as 158 drones and missiles, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, cruise missiles, and Shahed drones.
In light of Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine, US State Secretary Antony Blinken has called on Congress to release more funds for providing military aid to Kyiv. Blinken emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, Congress needs to act in the new year. He further condemned Russia’s strikes and expressed support for Ukraine in defending itself against the ongoing conflict.
The accusations of North Korea supplying ballistic missiles to Russia for use against Ukraine deepen concerns regarding the escalating conflict in the region. As the situation unfolds, the international community watches closely to see how it will affect the already tense geopolitical landscape.
