Dec. 21 — An Ephrata man was arrested on Tuesday after leading law enforcement officers on a chase south of Ephrata. Christopher Smith, 39, was booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of DUI, attempting to elude police, failing to obey a police officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began when a Grant County Sheriff’s deputy discovered Smith unconscious behind the wheel of a car near the entrance to the Ephrata gun range at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday. With drug paraphernalia in his hands and the car still running, Smith woke up and immediately fled the scene, prompting a pursuit by deputies and Ephrata Police Department officers spanning about 15 miles of county roads.

After an intense chase, deputies were finally able to apprehend Smith on a dead-end canal maintenance road near Road 5 Northwest and Road G Northwest.

In a separate incident in Moses Lake, a woman was arrested on Tuesday for violating a no-contact order and obstructing a law enforcement officer. Crystal Delgado, 31, was booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of violating a no-contact order, domestic violence, and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Delgado refused to come out of a house on North Paxson Drive when Moses Lake Police Department officers requested her to do so. K-9 Zedd, along with his handler Deputy Luis Jimenez and MLPD officers, entered the house after Delgado’s refusal. Eventually, Zedd located Delgado hiding under a large bag, apprehending her by her right arm.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the law and cooperating with law enforcement officers. Grant County residents are urged to prioritize public safety and comply with all legal orders and directives.

Law enforcement agencies continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of the community. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Ephrata Police Department are investigating the incident involving Christopher Smith, while the Moses Lake Police Department is handling the case involving Crystal Delgado.

As these cases proceed, it is crucial for individuals to respect the legal process and cooperate fully with law enforcement personnel. Failure to comply with the law can result in serious consequences for both individuals and the community as a whole.

Please stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available.
