Georgia is reportedly looking to ban the surrogacy business for foreigners, citing concerns over the exploitation of women and money laundering. The country, which has become a popular destination for surrogacy due to its relatively relaxed laws and low costs, is currently said to be home to around 100 surrogacy agencies, with the majority serving international clients. However, officials claim that the trade has become a cover for other illegal operations and that it has a negative impact on the dignity of women. Some surrogacy agencies have criticised the planned ban, viewing it as a threat to the local economy.
