Residents of Pineville, a town located at the state line, are expressing their concerns over a proposed substation that could be built in their neighborhood. Justin Burkhart, a resident of the McCullough neighborhood, joined a group of more than 20 people to voice their opposition to the plan. While they understand the need for a second substation due to the growing population and new subdivisions, they believe the chosen location is inappropriate and are urging the authorities to consider other options.

The proposed substation would be situated at the corner of Miller and Rock Hill Pineville, which is currently home to a local flea market. The flea market attracts a large number of visitors, particularly on weekends, and the residents fear that the substation would disrupt the business and negatively impact the area. Burkhart pointed out that the open tables at the flea market are occupied by vendors, and the parking spots are filled with customers.

Steve Miller, whose family has owned the property for nearly a century, also received a letter from the town requesting him to sell the portion of his land for the substation. However, Miller is fiercely opposed to the idea and refuses to give up his property. He stated, I have no desire for you to take my land. I don’t have any reason to want to get rid of it. Determined to hold onto what is rightfully his, Miller is prepared to fight until the end and will only comply if mandated by a court order.

Pineville Electric Systems Manager, David Lucore, acknowledged the frustrations of the residents and assured them that the decision to choose this location was not made lightly. He emphasized that they are open to exploring alternative options if they prove to be more suitable or equally feasible. Lucore explained, We’re just trying to cover all bases, you know, leave no stone unturned and provide the space we need for a new substation.

The concerns raised by the Pineville residents highlight the tension between the necessity for infrastructure development and the impact it can have on local communities. The residents believe that while the substation may be required, there are better locations that would minimize the disruption to businesses and neighborhoods. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will consider the residents’ pleas and look for an alternative site for the substation.

In the meantime, Steve Miller and his neighbors are determined to protect their community and maintain the integrity of their properties. With the fight far from over, they are prepared to defend their land and seek legal recourse if necessary. The proposed substation has ignited a passionate battle between the residents and the authorities, highlighting the importance of balancing the needs of a growing town with the concerns of its residents.

As Pineville waits for a resolution to this ongoing issue, the voices of the concerned residents continue to grow louder. The fate of the proposed substation hangs in the balance, and its ultimate location will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the surrounding community. The town’s decision-makers now face the challenge of finding a solution that satisfies the demands for increased energy supply while addressing the valid concerns of the residents.
