The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has announced the resumption of food assistance in drought and conflict-hit Ethiopia following a review of its operations. The agency aims to reach 3.2 million people with food aid. WFP chief Cindy McCain expressed gratitude for the hard work of the agency’s teams and partners in reaching this point. The new approach will include reinforced tracking to monitor food movements and a system of community feedback to help identify any misuse. The new systems have already been successfully tested in Ethiopia’s Tigray province and will now be implemented in other regions. Last month, WFP also resumed food assistance to nearly 900,000 refugees in Ethiopian camps, including those who have fled Sudan.
