Shelby County Organizations Join Forces to Provide Thanksgiving Meals for Needy Families

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – As Thanksgiving approaches, several organizations in Shelby County are coming together to ensure that everyone can enjoy a special holiday meal. Churches, nonprofits, and other groups are hosting food drives and giveaways to support families in need during the festive season.

One of the organizations involved in this initiative is Asbury Methodist Church. Over the next two weeks, the church will distribute Thanksgiving fixings and turkey vouchers to families. Additionally, the church operates a food pantry every Wednesday from 2-3:30 p.m., although it will be closed on November 22.

Crunch Fitness and Identity Church, based in Alabaster, have also joined the cause by hosting food drives to benefit the Salvation Army. Those interested in donating can contact either location for more information.

Manna Ministries, another organization in Alabaster, is playing a significant role in providing holiday food boxes for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Through their partnership with the Central Alabama Food Bank, they aim to distribute 1,800 holiday boxes. The Thanksgiving food giveaway, which will operate as a drive-thru service, is scheduled for November 18. Each food box contains meat and fixings for a family of four. No requirement other than completing a form stating the number of family members is necessary to receive the food.

Melanie Siow, a board member of Manna Ministries, emphasized the importance of showing love and support for their community. With over 700 families served on average each week, this non-denominational Christian ministry experiences a 25% increase in the number of people seeking assistance during the holidays.

In addition to these organizations, Helena Intermediate School is hosting a canned food drive from November 13-17. The donated non-expired canned food can be dropped off at the school. The Alabama Childhood Food Solutions is also organizing a canned food drive until December 19.

St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Chelsea is contributing to the cause through their annual 5k Turkey Trot. This event raises funds to support the church’s food pantry throughout the year.

Margarita Grill in Pelham is stepping up by hosting a food drive. Donations can be made in the restaurant’s lobby until November 20. For more information, contact Ashley at (251) 271-1960 or margaritagrill.aj@gmail.com.

These collective efforts from various organizations and community members in Shelby County will undoubtedly make a significant impact in ensuring that families in need have a wholesome and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. Through their generosity and compassion, they are embodying the true spirit of the season by supporting and loving their neighbors as themselves.

In conclusion, Shelby County organizations are rallying together to provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need. With food drives, giveaways, and community support, they are making sure that the holiday season is special for everyone.
