Massacre of 0.65 Million Muslims in Jammu: Remembering the Sacrifice on Martyrs’ Day
According to independent historians and international media reports, the first week of November 1947 witnessed a horrifying event in the Jammu region. Over 0.65 million Muslims belonging to the then Muslim-majority area were brutally assassinated. This heinous act was carried out by armed extremist Hindu gangsters of RSS (Rashteriya Savek Sangh), despotic Dogra forces, and Indian troops who occupied the region. The massacre was executed under a carefully planned conspiracy to annihilate the innocent Muslim population of Jammu.
Even today, Kashmiris observe Martyrs’ Day to pay tribute to the immeasurable sacrifices made by the 2.50 lakh inmates of Jammu. Men, women, children, and elderly Muslims were mercilessly slaughtered by armed Hindu gangsters, including Indian occupation forces and Dogra military troops. This genocide was made possible with the connivance of Dogra Hindu fanatics, serving their nefarious agenda. The victims were en route to migrate to Pakistan via the Jammu-Sialkot working boundary.
During the commemorative ceremonies, speakers emphasized the importance of continuing the mission initiated by the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir. The struggle will persist until the Kashmir Freedom movement reaches its logical end and the globally-acknowledged legitimate right to self-determination, as per the United Nations resolutions, is achieved. The international community has pledged its support for this cause.
In the picturesque district of Mirpur, Martyrs’ Day was observed with a special prayer meeting. The gathering was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz Chaudhry and attended by Divisional PID Chief Javed Malik, Mufti Allama Zubair Naqshbandi, ADC (G) Yasir Mahmood, Assistant Commissioner Raja Zahid Hussain, Magistrate Imran Yousaf Chaudhry, and Qari Muhammad Unees, who all paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir.
The speakers highlighted that the best way to honor the martyrs of Jammu is to follow in their footsteps and renew the pledge for the achievement of the birthright of self-determination. The ultimate destination for the valiant Kashmiris lies in Pakistan, for which they have sacrificed their lives.
Appealing to the international community, the speakers urged sincere efforts in fulfilling their global obligations to ensure an early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue. This issue encompasses the fundamental right to self-determination for approximately 20 million people residing in Jammu & Kashmir.
As the Kashmiri people remember the atrocities committed in Jammu, their call for justice echoes worldwide. The legacy of the martyrs will continue to be a reminder of the struggle for self-determination and the pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict in the region. The international community plays a pivotal role in upholding the rights of the Kashmiris and working towards a just and equitable solution.
The memory of the massacre of 0.65 million innocent Muslims in Jammu remains etched in the hearts of the Kashmiri people. It serves as a constant reminder of the need for justice, accountability, and the fulfillment of their right to self-determination. The sacrifices made by the martyrs will forever be cherished and honored by those who seek freedom and peace in Kashmir. As the world remembers the martyrs of Jammu, the Kashmiri struggle for a brighter future continues.
