Lance Corporal Austin Schwenk’s Funeral Arrangements Announced After Tragic Shooting at Camp Lejeune
Funeral arrangements have been announced for Lance Corporal Austin Schwenk, the Lake County Marine who was fatally shot at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina earlier this month.
Lance Corporal Austin Schwenk’s body will be flown back home to Northeast Ohio on Tuesday, October 31, with arrival at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport scheduled for approximately 5:10 p.m. A procession, consisting of first responders, will then transport Schwenk to the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Mentor.
To honor Lance Corporal Austin Schwenk and pay their respects, a public visitation will be held at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 8466 Mentor Avenue in Mentor on Friday, November 3, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The funeral service for Lance Corporal Austin Schwenk will take place on Saturday, November 4, at the Riverside High School Field House in Painesville. The service will commence at 10 a.m.
According to officials, Schwenk was tragically killed on October 18 in an incident that took place in a barracks room on the base. Lance Corporal Schwenk enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2022 after graduating from Riverside High School. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.
In relation to the death of Lance Corporal Austin Schwenk, a Marine suspected of involvement has been apprehended by law enforcement authorities, as confirmed by the 2nd Marine Division. The incident is currently under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), and they will be conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting death.
