Fort Mill’s historic National Guard Armory, which has been in use as the town’s utilities department for over a decade, is set to receive $25m in funding for repairs. The building was constructed in 1938 and holds national historic status. Representing one of Fort Mill’s oldest buildings, it was hailed as an iconic Art Deco-style structure that was once used for military training purposes. In addition to the utilities department, the space has been used as a school gymnasium and dance hall. The funds will be used for extensive repairs, roof replacement and assessment for optimal use, while preserving its historic architecture and status.
