Despite the worries, the mother expressed her pride in her son’s dedication and bravery.
Dubbed Jacob to protect his identity, the soldier grew up in Naperville with a strong desire to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces. His motivation stems from his grandparents’ history as Holocaust survivors. In a letter to his family, Jacob explained the reasons behind his decision to fight. I am going to war to protect the people of Israel, the state of Israel, with all my heart, with all my soul, and my life, with one goal: to create peace now and forever that this will never happen again, he wrote.
As tensions continue to escalate between Israel and Hamas, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to crush and destroy Hamas in response to their surprise attack from the Gaza Strip.
