Senior Donkey Finds Forever Retirement Home & New Best Friend
After capturing the hearts of animal lovers online, a senior donkey named Frank has finally found his forever retirement home. The BC SPCA announced on Friday that 22-year-old Frank, who went viral on their social media accounts in early September, has been placed in a loving and nurturing environment.
Frank’s journey hasn’t been easy. He was brought into BC SPCA care when his previous owners could no longer meet his medical needs. A veterinarian examination revealed that Frank had pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), also known as Equine Cushing’s Disease. This hormone disorder can lead to serious health complications if left untreated. However, with the right medical care, donkeys with PPID can still lead happy lives.
In addition to his hormonal disorder, Frank also suffered from severe dental disease and had several missing teeth, which made it difficult for him to eat. The BC SPCA provided him with dental treatment to alleviate his discomfort. Despite his challenges, Frank’s sweet face and gentle nature garnered significant attention online.
It was through the power of social media and fortunate timing that Frank, now affectionately called Charlie, found his forever retirement home. Sheri, who had previously adopted cats from the SPCA, came across a photo of Charlie and felt an instant connection. She applied to adopt him and her home was deemed the perfect match.
Living on Sheri’s farm in the countryside, Charlie is now thriving. He spends his days with his new best friend, Millie, a miniature mule that Sheri rescued. The playful duo can be seen running around the property and enjoying each other’s company. Sheri describes Charlie as an energetic and affectionate donkey who loves people, but his bond with Millie is undeniable.
Charlie’s story is a true testament to the adage everyone deserves a second chance at love. Despite the challenges he faced, he has brought immeasurable joy to the lives of those around him. His journey serves as a reminder of the importance of finding forever homes for animals in need.
The BC SPCA continues to strive towards their mission of rescuing and finding loving homes for vulnerable animals. Through their social media platforms, they are able to reach a broad audience and connect animals like Charlie with caring individuals who are willing to provide them with the love and care they deserve.
In a world where viral videos often capture fleeting moments of entertainment, Charlie’s story is a heartwarming reminder of the enduring impact that can be made when kindness and compassion intersect with technology and timing.
