Rep. Clay Higgins Reveals: COVID ‘Almost Killed Me’ Despite Skepticism

In a House Rules Committee hearing, Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO) confronted his colleague Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) after Higgins publicly expressed skepticism about the seriousness of COVID-19. Neguse questioned whether Higgins truly believed the virus to be non-dangerous, to which Higgins responded that his definition of danger might differ from Neguse’s.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Neguse presented an article from The Advocate, a Louisiana newspaper, where Higgins himself acknowledged the severity of the disease. The article, published on August 13, 2021, quoted Higgins saying, My wife, my son and I got Covid about a month ago, the Delta variant, and I’ve never been knocked down that hard in my life. I’m fully recovered now.

Higgins did not deny the accuracy of the article. On the contrary, he affirmed that he had, in fact, faced near-death from the Delta variant of COVID-19. While he claimed to have gained natural immunity and refused the experimental vaccine, he acknowledged battling the virus multiple times, once being brought to the brink of death.

Neguse expressed relief that Higgins had recovered but highlighted the contradiction between Higgins’ personal experience and his previous statements suggesting COVID-19 was not dangerous. The congressman pointed out that most people would consider a disease that brings one to death’s door to be dangerous.

This exchange between the two congressmen reveals the ongoing debate around the seriousness of COVID-19 and the efficacy of vaccines. It brings to light the personal experiences of individuals who may hold conflicting beliefs about the virus. While Neguse emphasized the need to acknowledge the dangers posed by COVID-19, Higgins stood by his skepticism and his decision to remain unvaccinated.

As the conversation surrounding COVID-19 continues, it is crucial to consider scientific evidence, expert opinions, and personal experiences in order to make informed decisions and protect public health.
